WHEN TRAVELING TO HERITAGE-LISTED Hoi An, the mind usually goes to the striking, golden-yellow buildings speckled around the old quarter, once a South-East Asian trading port. However, there is a new spot to add to the itinerary just 15 minutes from the charming UNESCO town. Nox Beach Club, an upscale “multi-experiential” venue, is a destination in itself—and a fun cultural counterpoint to the ancient city—that offers a little respite from exploring under the hot sun.

After landing in Danang and taking a 45-minute drive south along the coast, I arrived at my accommodation, New World Hoiana Beach Resort, which opened in April last year. It’s set within the enormous Hoiana Resort & Golf, a premier beachfront integrated resort. Managed by the fine folks at Rosewood, it exudes the modern, luxurious vibes and tasteful design the brand is known for, infused with subtle hints of Vietnamese aesthetics. My room was simple yet sleek with touches of olive green and splashes of yellow, enhanced by a sweeping view of the resort’s secluded beach.

Though I was staying at Hoiana Beach Resort for the grand opening of Nox Beach Club, I had heard chatter about a Soho House-inspired venue in the hotel, so I ventured out to find it. What I discovered was Quang Nam House, a hidden sanctuary where every corner I turned held a new surprise, like floor-to-ceiling windows, comfy bean bag chairs, cozy nooks with plush sofas, and a bar lined with over 40 types of whiskey. Staying for a drink was a given, so I plopped down on a bean bag, ordered a glass of wine and took in some tunes from the house DJ.

The next day was the official launch party for Nox Beach Club, and I was ready to see what the buzz was all about. As the sun started to set, I made my way through the grandiose entrance of the club, which led to a lush oasis that seemed to stretch on for days.

Dotted around the grassy space under swaying palms were elegant cabanas and pairs of loungers, all centered around an inviting freeform pool. I walked around before the crowds poured in and found myself trying bits and bites from each of the six drinking and dining venues. The South American and Asian-inspired Seafood Shack had a gorgeous crudo bar on offer, while pizzas and antipasti were flying out of the Italian restaurant, Osteria. Since I was visiting Vietnam, I made sure to stop by Banh Mi & Noodles for reimagined Vietnamese dishes, including bahn mi, of course—my personal favorite sandwich of all time.

The Grill was doling out charcoal-fired seafood and meat and before I knew it, hundreds of people were surrounding me, yet I never once felt Nox to be overcrowded. In fact, I never even waited for a drink. I took a seat at the Beach Club Bar just in time to catch Vietnam’s queen of hip hop, Suboi, fire up the crowd with a few hits, followed by a sparkling display of fireworks—a truly magical backdrop for the grand opening.

The next day, I came back to get a daytime glimpse of Nox and it had the ambience of a sophisticated beachside haven that I realized also had direct access to the beach. With the abundant array of culinary delights on hand, the setting was truly like a tropical paradise. Add all-day cabana service and happy hours to the mix and this place is a match made in heaven for beach lovers who want to unwind, get some sun, and indulge just a little.

Importantly, you don’t need to be a guest of the resort to enjoy the spoils of Nox Beach Club, with day passes available (Monday to Thursday, 2 pm to 7pm and Friday to Sunday 11am to 7 pm), nightly entertainment, and curated events like pool parties and DJ nights drawing a youthful mix of local residents and travelers.
