Whether or not you are a fan of The Lord of the Rings franchise, especially The Hobbit series, you have very likely heard about Hobbit homes. Inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s hobbits, Hobbit houses, now a common concept overseas, are fast becoming a unique lodging option in India. Wondering if you can stay in a Hobbit house in India? Tag along!

Explore pretty Hobbit homes with our guide to this quaint retreat in Maine.

What are Hobbit homes/houses?

These eco-friendly dwellings, inspired by the cosy homes of hobbits in Tolkien’s novels, are built into hillsides or partially underground. However, much before the Hobbit houses were showcased in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, the concept of tiny underground homes with pretty interiors and exteriors covered with lush grass was beautifully captured in Teletubbies (1997-2001), a TV series for children. 90’s kids may remember watching Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po dancing in front of their unique home, now known as a Hobbit house. Watch here.
