Goa Facilitates Maha Kumbh Pilgrimage With Free Train Travel To Prayagraj

Goa has launched free rail transport to Prayagraj for Maha Kumbh 2025, offering three special trains, meals, and a 24-hour pilgrimage window.

Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has inaugurated a free train service from Karmali Railway Station (12.7 km from Panaji) to Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. The inaugural train departed on February 6, 2025, carrying nearly 1,000 devotees and completing the journey in 34 hours. Officials have arranged three special trains for pilgrims, with the possibility of adding more if necessary.

Special Goa-Prayagraj train service for Maha Kumbh: Key details

The three special trains — designed exclusively for the Goa-Prayagraj route — are part of the Mukhyamantri Dev Darshan Yojana, which aims to enhance pilgrimage tourism and the spiritual well-being of Goan residents.

Open for bookings to devotees aged 18 to 60 years without significant health concerns, the first train from Goa to Prayagraj departed on February 6, with the remaining two scheduled for February 13 and 21. All travellers will receive complimentary meals on board.

Devotees will have 24 hours to explore the Maha Kumbh Mela, after which they must board the return train from Prayagraj to Goa. These trains, offering round-trip journeys, will facilitate systematic planning and exploration for travellers.

The government has also partnered with local health officials to ensure that medical assistance is readily available throughout the journey from Goa to Prayagraj, making religious tourism accessible and comfortable for everyone.

The historic Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 commenced on January 13 and will run till February 26.
